In Christ

Worry - In Webster's dictionary some definitions of worry includes, "to feel uneasy; torment oneself with or suffer from disturbing thoughts; fret; to make uneasy or anxious.”

We see in Philippians 4:6-8 what God says on the subject. "6 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 If you do this, you will experience God’s peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

8 And now, dear brothers and sisters, let me say one more thing as I close this letter. Fix your thoughts on what is true and honorable and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” NLT Bible

First, we are told not to worry about anything! Next we see that we can experience God's peace in this life. Last, we are told how to do this – by thinking about the things that the Lord wants us to think about!

What are you thinking?

What many Christians may not realize is that we don't have to worry. It is a choice we make. Just because a thought comes into your mind doesn't mean you must dwell on it. God tells us that we must renew our mind with the Word of God, that we must control our thoughts. If He said we are to do it, then we can do it! It will take practice and work, but any bad habit can be broken.

Last week I showed you that to believe is to trust in, cling to, and rely on the Lord. Worry and fear is the opposite of believe. Worry is trying to figure out in your own mind how you are going to handle a situation instead of trusting in the Lord. This doesn't mean that we never have to do anything about the situation. It means we can ask the Lord for wisdom and help and then know that He will work with us!

Most of us want peace in our lives instead of worry and frustration. I encourage you to practice what God's Word says by not worrying about anything and then you too can experience God's peace in your life!
