In Christ
In Christ – Last week I wrote on the subject of integrity, I mentioned how it's doing the right thing, because it's right, even when no one is looking! Today I want to add some more thoughts on this same topic.
Webster's defines integrity as the "uncompromising adherence to moral and ethical principles”.
Integrity also has to do with honesty. You may have heard the phrase "the integrity of God's Word.” This means that it is not compromised - it's the truth. This is how we should be as we walk with integrity. It is how Jesus was and still is. As we study the gospels we can clearly see that He never changed with people's opinion – he was the one to change people's opinion because He spoke the truth in love!
Proverbs 20:7 tells us that the godly walk with integrity, so we know that Jesus was always integral! He spoke and carried it through to the end. It seems that society in general has veered away from this. It once was expected that a person's word meant something! If someone said they would do a task or favour, more often than not, you could count on it being done.
In Psalm 89:34 God Himself states, "I will not violate my covenant or alter what my lips have uttered.” (New International Version) The Message puts it this way, "Do you think I'd withdraw my holy promise?” That is true integrity as well. God stands by His word and so should we!
It bothers me that even some Christians don't realize the importance of "sticking to their word” and always speaking the truth (not lying). These are Godly traits and a great example to others as we practise integrity!
Let's try to remember these points as we make promises and work through our daily schedules. If you say you will do something, then do your very best to accomplish it, and to accomplish it to the very best of your ability!
