In Christ
What Do You Honor? - I ask you to think seriously about that. To honor something is to hold it in high esteem. Another way of saying it is, what do you consider to be of great importance in your life, and who or what do you respect? I certainly don't believe we see enough honor given to the proper people and things in the time we are living.
So what should we honor? What is the standard to hold to? Too often people don't know what the standard is because they have not been taught.
My standard that I do my best to hold tightly to is the Word of God. This standard never changes. It is always the same. This is a good thing, because it leaves no room for confusion! I put high importance on the name of Jesus, because every knee will bow to His name. I also honor the blood of Jesus and what He did for us on the cross. It will take more than a lifetime to realize all this includes.
The Word has much to say about what we should honor and respect, but did you know that our Heavenly Father honors those who follow Jesus? In John 12:26 Jesus says, "Anyone who wants to be my disciple must follow me, because my servants must be where I am. And the Father will honor anyone who serves me.” (NLT)
In the Old Testament God warned people about having a lack of honor. In 1 Samuel 2:30 He says, "But I will honor those who honor me, and I will despise those who think lightly of me.” (NLT)
Think about these scriptures for a while. When we put God and His Word first place in our lives, we step into a realm of blessing that will take us all of eternity to explore! How exciting is that?
Matthew 6:33 states, "Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” (NLT) When we seek first God's way of doing things and His realm of authority (which is His Kingdom), this is truly holding Him in the highest place of importance (or esteem) in our lives! This is true honor!
