In Christ
What is confession? In it's most simple terms, confession is "saying the same thing”. It is acknowledging something to be true. Too many people may think it is always confessing one's sins, but this is just a part of it.
Jesus is our Supreme Example. He went around saying what He heard the Father say and doing what He saw the Father do. Many times Jesus simply quoted the scriptures. He said the same thing as what the bible said.
We can, and should do the same thing as Jesus! When Jesus was tempted in the wilderness, He quoted scriptures back to the devil! Each and every time Jesus replied, "the Scriptures say”. When the religious rulers were trying to trap Him, He referred to, or quoted scriptures much of the time. The apostles also quoted or referred to the scriptures in their letters.
You may think that quoting Scriptures, or saying the same thing as God says, just worked for these people in the bible. Actually, it will do the same thing for you when you believe it in your heart, and say it with your mouth. This is exactly how we are born again (how we receive Jesus as our Lord and Saviour).
Romans 10:8-10 puts it this way: "'The message is very close at hand; it is on your lips and in your heart.' And that message is the very message about faith that we preach: If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved.”
Faith must be in two places, in your heart and in your mouth. The Apostle Paul quotes Psalm 116:10 in 2 Corinthians 4:13. He writes: "Yet we have the same spirit of faith as he had who wrote, I have believed, and therefore have I spoken. We too believe, and therefore we speak.”
True humility is agreeing with God, or confessing the same thing as what He says. Are you going to say the same thing as what He says, or pridefully say something different? Do not take into consideration what you are "feeling” at the time. As I've wrote many times before, it is so important to find out what God actually says in His Word!
I agree that I'm righteous, redeemed, that I have the mind of Christ, I'm healed, that God supplies my needs according to His riches in Christ Jesus! I could go on and on, but hopefully you get the concept...
Whatever challenge we are going through, we can find the promises of the Lord in the bible, believe it in our heart, and say it with our mouth. We simply agree with, or confess what God says and come through in victory! Our words are powerful. We either speak life (agreeing and saying what the bible says) or death, saying and believing what the world teaches. I choose life!
